SZE SUPPORTS GRADUATION SUCCESS WITH "MATHEMATICS 0" COURSE

At first glance, it might seem like an additional requirement, but the "Mathematics 0" course introduced by Széchenyi István University in several degree programmes from the spring semester serves to fill gaps in fundamental numeracy skills, thereby facilitating successful completion of foundational and professional subjects. Essentially, the institution offers free tutoring to students, allowing them to earn their degree in three and a half years with greater confidence, without incurring extra costs for themselves or their families. 

 

SZE STUDENTS TRIUMPH WITH BOSCH×RICHTER INDUSTRIAL INNOVATION AWARD

Two students from Széchenyi István University, Fanni Lőrincz, , majoring in Business Administration and Management, and Balázs Szőnyi, a student of Mechatronics Engineering have developed a solution based on artificial intelligence models that allows the user to talk to the device as if it were a living human being. Their aim was primarily to help socially isolated people and people with mental illnesses and to prevent the development of such illnesses. Their application recently won the BoschxRichter Gedeon Industrial Innovation Award.

 

SZÉCHENYI ISTVÁN UNIVERSITY STUDENTS EXCEL AT WORLDSKILLS 2024

Three students from Széchenyi István University participated in the WorldSkills Championships. Bianka Dely, in the Graphic Design Technology category, and Roland Izsó, who finished fourth in the Industry 4.0 category, won a medal of excellence, while Péter Losonczi was among the best in the Electrical Installations category. 

 

REPORTING WEEK: NEW INITIATIVE BRINGS GREATER FLEXIBILITY TO THE ACADEMIC AND EXAM PERIODS

Starting this academic year, the introduction of a reporting week at Széchenyi István University offers additional flexibility and planning options for both lecturers and students. This week will allow more time for making up missed classes, practical sessions and in-class tests, or, in the case of project-based subjects, for the reports as well.

 

HUNDREDS OF SZE STUDENTS AID IN FLOOD RELIEF EFFORTS

Over the course of a day and a half, more than 200 Hungarian and international students from Széchenyi István University responded to the institution's call to volunteer to help with flood protection in Mosonmagyaróvár and at the Győr-Bácsa site of the North Transdanubia Water Management Directorate.

 

EXCEPTIONAL STUDENTS HONOURED AT SZE’S OPENING CEREMONY

The 2024/25 academic year officially began at Széchenyi István University with the opening ceremony on 2 September. At the event, the Student and Athlete Scholarships and the Outstanding Student, Outstanding Athlete Awards were also presented to 54 students.13 students from our faculty were awarded.

 

VICTORY AND THIRD PLACE FOR SZE'S ARRABONA RACING TEAM

Celebrating its tenth year of existence, the Arrabona Racing Team, a student led and operated racing team of Széchenyi István University participating in the Formula Student series, won the FS East at ZalaZone in Zalaegerszeg on the first weekend of August, and a week earlier finished third on the Red Bull Ring in Austria. The SZEngine team, also made up of students from Széchenyi, contributed to the international success by developing the vehicle's engine.

 

ADMISSIONS 2024: SZE WELCOMES OVER 4,400 FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS TO HIGH-QUALITY COURSES

A total of 4409 first-year students will start their studies at Széchenyi István University in September. In a significant number of degree programmes, the point thresholds have risen compared to last year, with some courses only being accessible with 487 points. All this shows that there are well-prepared students coming to the institution's high-quality courses. At Széchenyi István University, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Informatics and Electrical Engineering again attracted the largest number of applicants this year, and compared to last year, the Faculty's courses were typically better attended. As has been the case so far, the admission threshold and the average score are higher for full-time courses in engineering and for correspondence courses in IT.

 

NEARLY 500 NEW ENGINEERS GRADUATE AT SZÉCHENYI ISTVÁN UNIVERSITY

The three engineering faculties at Széchenyi István University have held their graduation ceremonies. This academic year, almost five hundred students graduated from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Informatics and Electrical Engineering, the Audi Hungaria Faculty of Vehicle Engineering and the Faculty of Architecture Civil Engineering and Transport Sciences. Our faculty, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Informatics and Electrical Engineering had around 200 new graduates. 

 

DR PÉTER VÁRI, PROFESSOR AT SZE, DEPUTY DIRECTOR GENERAL OF NMHH, RECEIVES BAY ZOLTÁN PRIZE

Dr Péter Vári, Associate Professor at Széchenyi István University and Deputy Director-General of the National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH), has been awarded the Bay Zoltán Prize by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade. He continues to make it his priority to support the education of quality engineering students and the activities of student excellence.

 

ART UNVEILS NEW CAR: SZÉCHENYI TEAM READY FOR RACES

Less weight, more reliability - that's how the Arrabona Racing Team (ART), celebrating its tenth anniversary, describes this year's car. The Formula Student team from Széchenyi István University presented its new car at a rollout event, which could help the team to return to the top of the standings after learning from last season's experiences.

 

SZE’S WORLD RECORD-BREAKING CAR IS PROTECTED BY A DESIGN PATENT

Széchenyi István University pays special attention to the protection of its intellectual property: the work of its researchers and students is protected by a series of registered patents, design patents and trademarks. This time, the shape of the three-time world champion car of the SZEnergy Team has been registered under a design patent, which legally guarantees that the winning bodywork of the student engineering team will remain inimitable in the future.

 

SZE AND XUZHOU UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY SIGNED A MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING

Széchenyi István University and the Xuzhou University of Technology plan to establish cooperation in the fields of education, research and culture. The representatives of the two institutions have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enter into a partnership.

 

THEY GRADUATED FIFTY YEARS AGO - SZE SALUTED ENGINEERS WITH GOLD DIPLOMAS

Almost a hundred people received their gold diplomas in person at an event held in two parts at Széchenyi István University on 6 June. The ceremony, during which engineers and technicians who graduated from the predecessor Technical College of Transportation and Telecommunications (abbreviated as KTMF in Hungarian) over the past fifty years were honoured, took place for the third time this year.

 

SZÉCHENYI UNIVERSITY TEAM SUPPLIES ENGINES FOR TWO RACING CARS AND DEVELOPS HYBRID DRIVE Whatever happens during the racing season, 2024 will be written in capital letters in the SZEngine Team's chronicle book: on the one hand, two Formula Student teams will have cars with hearts from Győr this year, and on the other hand, the team is opening up to hybrid drives for the first time, so much so that they will be testing the innovative technology in the autumn. The team of engine development students from Széchenyi University unveiled their developments at the usual pre-race rollout event.

 
 

WORLD RECORD FOR THE THIRD TIME AT EUROPE'S BIGGEST ENERGY EFFICIENCY COMPETITION

The SZEnergy Team, a team of students developing an electric vehicle at Széchenyi István University, has once again taken first place in Europe's largest energy efficiency competition in the category of self-driving and electrically powered city cars. In the latter, they won first place, breaking their own world record for the second time.

 

FOCUS ON SPACE: THE NATIONAL CONFERENCE OF THE WORLD TELECOMMUNICATIONS DAY WAS HELD AT SZE

The latest space communications technologies, satellite services and space exploration were the focus of this year's World Telecommunications Day conference. The event was held for the 15th time at Széchenyi István University with the special support of the National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH).

 

THE STUDENT TEAM OF SZE WANT TO BREAK WORLD RECORD WITH A CAR HONED TO PERFECTION

Last May, the SZEnergy Team won both the energy efficiency and autonomous categories, closing the world's largest energy efficiency race, the Shell Eco-marathon, with a double victory and breaking its own previous world record. The team from Széchenyi István University in Győr has set the bar even higher than usual this year, aiming for a double title, if possible with another world record. Before travelling to the race venue, they presented their completed developments.

 

WHERE TALENTS MEET: SCIENTIFIC AND ART STUDENTS' CONFERENCE AT SZÉCHENYI ISTVÁN UNIVERSITY

More than 300 students presented their projects and artworks at the Széchenyi István University's Scientific and Art Students' Conference (TDK) and Talent Day on 24 April. Of the entries from the Faculty of Mechanical, Computer and Electrical Engineering, 12 were qualified for the National Scientific and Art Students' Conference (OTDK), 5 first prizes and 6 special prizes were awarded. This semester again, international students were well represented at the conference: 24 students participated, 3 of them from our faculty.

 

HUNGARIAN RESEARCH NETWORK AND SZE ENTER INTO PARTNERSHIP FOR FUTURE-ORIENTED RESEARCH

The Széchenyi István University has signed a cooperation agreement with the HUN-REN Centre, responsible for the management and operation of the independent research network, and its Research Centre for Energy Sciences, Research Centre for Natural Sciences and for Research Institute for Earth Physics and Space Sciences. The partners have concluded agreements to coordinate their professional research activities and to establish a framework for cooperation in order to achieve scientific results.

 

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING IN PRACTICE: COMMUNITY POWER BUILDING AT THE CONFERENCE OF SZE

Take students from different universities, randomly put them into mixed teams, solve a problem given by an industrial company in three days and present it in front of a jury of academics - this was the International Student Conference on Mechanical Engineering at Széchenyi István University. However, the event means always much more than just a competition: it connects companies from the Western Transdanubian region with students, gives insight into real projects and forges a real community.

 

NATIONAL HOLIDAY: SZÉCHENYI UNIVERSITY STAFF, STUDENTS AND ASSOCIATES HONOURED

Several employees of Széchenyi István University, a former student, and cooperation partners received awards from the state and the Győr administration on the occasion of the national holiday on March 15th. Mészáros István, a master instructor and colleague of the Telecommunications Department, received the Civilian Division of the Hungarian Order of Merit Gold Cross. Dr Dániel Pup, university adjunct lecturer, professional coordinator at the University's Vehicle Industry Research Centre, lecturer at the Department of Road and Railway Vehicles, program director of the Jedlik Ányos College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering was awarded the Civilian Division of the Hungarian Order of Merit Silver Cross. 

 

RECOGNITION AWARDS PRESENTED AT SZE’S CEREMONY FOR 15TH MARCH 

The Senate of Széchenyi István University awarded the title of Honorary University Professor to internationally recognized radio telecommunications experts Dr István Bozsóki and Dr József Orbán. Mrs G. Kovács, master instructor at the Department of Machine Design was honoured with the Bakonyi István Outstanding Educator Award. Doctoral degrees were awarded to János Hollósi (Department of Informatics) and Tamás Budai (Department of Telecommunications). 

 

THE SZESAT TEAM PRESENTED THE SATELLITE OF SZÉCHENYI ISTVÁN UNIVERSITY IN THE NETHERLANDS

The satellite construction section of the SZESAT Interdisciplinary Special College of the Széchenyi István University has achieved a significant international success by being the first Hungarian university team to qualify for the European Space Agency (ESA) Fly Your Satellite! programme. At a workshop in the Netherlands, the students of the institution presented the current stage of their SZESAT-1 satellite.

 

A FORMER STUDENT OF SZE BUILT ONE OF THE LEADING HUNGARIAN LED DISTRIBUTION COMPANIES

Bence Szórádi, a former electrical engineering student of Széchenyi István University has had an unusual journey. At the age of 19, in parallel with his studies he launched his business and has not stopped since then. This successful businessman won the Young Entrepreneur of the Year award at the age of only 24 and was soon on the cover of Forbes, just one month after defending his thesis. He told us about this unique career journey.

 

A STUDENT OF SZÉCHENYI ISTVÁN UNIVERSITY IMPROVED HIS SKILLS ON PROGRAMMES ABROAD

Hundreds of students have benefited from short training programmes within the framework of the RUN-EU cooperation, which have enabled them to spend a week in the cities of the institutions involved in the project. Dániel Doma, a student at Széchenyi István University, has taken advantage of this opportunity three times: in Portugal, Ireland and most recently in Austria, where he has been able to learn more about the Python programming language and artificial intelligence.

 

STUDENTS OF SZÉCHENYI UNIVERSITY AMONG THE WINNERS OF THE ERPSIM COMPETITION

A team of international students from Széchenyi István University beat off American, Asian, European universities in a prestigious international ERP business simulation competition.

 

UNIVERSITY AWARDS GALA AND MEDIA BALL: SZÉCHENYI ISTVÁN UNIVERSITY RECOGNIZES ITS BEST

Three students, one lecturer and one alumnus of Széchenyi István University were honoured at the University Awards Gala on 13 January at the Media Ball. The University Hall was packed for the prestigious event. Dániel Doma, a student of computer engineering, was awarded Student of Year 2023.

 

CONFERENCE: THE INTERNATIONAL STUDENT OF SZE WON THE PRIZE FOR THE MOST INTERESTING PRESENTATION

A Moroccan master's student of Széchenyi István University has won the prize for the most interesting presentation at a professional conference on business informatics. The talented youngster presented a comparative study in which she tested her own artificial intelligence-based software against other applications available on the market.

 

SZÉCHENYI UZBEK STUDENT WINS PRIZE FOR BEST ENGLISH-LANGUAGE PRESENTATION

The prize for the best presentation in English was awarded to Ulugbek Bayboboev, a Master's student in Business Informatics at Széchenyi István University, who spoke to the audience on "The importance of cloud technologies in everyday life", summarising the results of his research in Uzbekistan.
